William John Mahaffy (Bill) Obituary

Warrensburg, MO - 'Bill' Mahaffy passed away in the Missouri Veterans Home, age 90, on May 7, 2025, in Warrensburg, Missouri. Bill was born May 29, 1934, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to John & Myrtle (Foote) Mahaffy. His first years of life were spent in Piedmont, SD during The Great Depression. The Mahaffy family came West looking for work opportunities; first in McCleary, Washington, and then in Granger, WA. Bill graduated from Granger High School in 1955, then went to Business School in Yakima. In 1957, Bill was drafted into the Army and spent the next two years in San Antonio, Texas, making some of the best friends of his life. After serving in the Army, he returned to the Yakima Valley. In 1962, he married Lila Newman, and they lived in Yakima. In 1966, they bought property in Sunnyside on Morgan Road, where he began Lower Valley Auto Wrecking, and later added Bill's Towing. Bill loved Chevys from an early age, and often remarked in retirement how lucky he was to have had good parents, and to get to work in Yakima Valley in the wrecked cars business. He enjoyed helping people, and he either employed or helped many in one way or another, in the Yakima Valley. Bill remained in Sunnyside until 2019, when he finally retired at age 84.
