Verna Gene (Hull) Wisner Obituary

Yakima, WA - In Loving Memory of Verna Gene (Hull) Wisner

Verna Gene (Hull) Wisner, 77, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, and is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on December 29, 1947, in Yakima, Washington, to Dave and Gene Hull, Verna was the eldest of eight siblings and a beloved figure in her community.

Verna's life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and service. She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Wisner, in 2003 after reconnecting later in life, sharing a deep bond that enriched their years together. A proud graduate of West Valley High School in 1966, Verna attended Washington State University for a year before becoming a flight attendant with United Airlines.

Verna's creative talents shone brightly. She was renowned for her beautifully decorated birthday, special occasion, and wedding cakes, delighting family, friends, and clients across the valley through her business, Desserts by Verna. Her cookies, desserts, and original recipes were cherished for their exceptional flavor. Her creative spirit also extended to sewing, knitting, crocheting, and creating treasured family scrapbooks. In recent years, she poured her artistry into crafting elegant, original, quilted, Christmas ornaments.

Music was Verna's lifelong passion. She played the piano with grace, often late into the night, and shared her gift by accompanying church and school choirs, directing Easter and Christmas cantatas, and filling her home with song, always humming a tune.

A devoted animal lover, Verna welcomed stray dogs and cats into her heart and home, especially her beloved dog, Punky, who will miss her dearly.

Her love for quality time shone through in her dedication to family and community. From volunteering with the Yakima Sundusters, the softball board, and Good News Club to cheering at her grandsons' school and sporting events, Verna was a constant presence. Later in life, she cherished country drives with Dennis, exploring the hills, visiting friends, or hunting for unique garden treasures like stumps and rocks, always with a cooler packed for the adventure.

Verna is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Wisner; her son, Matt Messer, and his wife, Heather; her grandsons, Chance Messer (fiancée, Jordan) and Colton Messer; and her siblings, Dan (Candy) Hull, Chris (Skip) Steinmetz, Laurel (Don) Brunssen, Sam (Sandi) Hull, Aaron (Nancy) Hull, Alice (Steve) Campbell, and John (Jennifer) Hull. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Gene Hull.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Wiley Union Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Union Gospel Mission of Yakima in Verna's memory. Arrangements are under the care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.

Verna's legacy of love, creativity, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
