Yakima, WA - Yakima, WA - Shawn C. Downey passed away unexpectedly of a cardiac arrest on May 9, 2025, in Yakima at the age of 41. Born on July 5, 1983, Shawn was a beloved son, nephew, brother, cousin, and friend to everyone he met.

Shawn attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Eastside Catholic, and Bellevue High School. He graduated from Bellevue College and worked as a Microsoft contractor in high-tech sales. He relocated to Yakima two years ago, where he worked as a Sales Executive for Ziply Fiber. He was highly professional and loved all his customers and his Ziply team.

He is survived by his mother, Lisa (Smith) Downey, father Kevin Downey, grandfather William "Bill" Smith, aunts Michelle "Micki" Smith, Katie (Downey) Schiltz, Terri Downey, uncles Mike Downey and Matt Schiltz, along with his best friend and shadow Wiley and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Julie Smith, paternal grandparents Peter and Sally Downey, uncle Gerry Smith, and his beloved pets Max and Blackjack.

Shawn made a friend wherever he went. He always had a bright smile, amazing compassion, infectious giggle, and genuine love of all people and animals. He loved fast cars, fashion, food, fine wine, traveling, great movies and tv shows, sports and most of all, he loved family. Shawn enjoyed time with loved ones and dinners with great food/wine, lots of stories, and laughter, and always wanted everyone involved. He made friends easily and included everyone.

A Catholic Vigil will be held at 6 p.m., May 19 at St. Paul Chapel in Yakima. A Catholic mass will be held at 10 a.m., May 20 at St. Paul Cathedral in Yakima with a reception following at the Yakima Valley Museum (11:30-2:00pm). In lieu of flowers or to remember Shawn's love of dogs, please make a donation to the Yakima Humane Society in Shawn Downey's name.

Shawn used to say, "It will all be okay," and with the love of his family and friends, it eventually will. Raise a glass and give a toast to Shawn and those you love.
