Yakima, Washington - Ronald Lee Phillips went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 21, 2025. Ron was born on April 4, 1943, in Bremerton, WA to Kinny and Edna Leota Phillips. At an early age, the family moved from Waitsburg, WA to Billings, Montana. Ron's dad was killed in an industrial accident when Ron was seven years old. Ron graduated from Billings Senior High and then Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, graduating with a degree in Architecture. While in Bozeman, he met Sharon Stanton, who was completing her first year of elementary school teaching. On June 15th, 1968, he and Sharon were married at Crane Community Chapel in Austin, Minnesota. Weeks later, they moved to Yakima, where Ron began his 40-year architectural career, first working for architect, Tom Hargis, on the Yakima Mall that was under construction. Ron finished his career, working for Traho Architects. Over the years, Ron designed and worked on many commercial projects, including schools, churches, Native American housing, the firing center, the senior center and nursing homes.
Ron and Sharon welcomed son, Eric, in 1971 and son, Scott, in 1973. Ron was a loving, hands-on dad, building projects with his sons. He coached their T-ball, basketball and soccer teams. As they grew older, he was always in the stands cheering them on. When Ron was working on deadlines in the evening, he sometimes took the boys with him to the office, and they sat at drafting tables doing their homework. When the grandkids came, he loved nothing better than playing board games and outdoor games with them.
Ron accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and was a 50 plus member of West Side Church where he coached the men's church league basketball team, was a leader in Boy's Brigade, an usher, serving in the Helps ministry to seniors, and involved in a very special Life Group who became like family. He modeled his faith to his family, rising early for daily Bible reading and prayer, living it out in kindness and humility.
Ron was a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Yakima "Y", and Bible Study Fellowship. After retirement, he enjoyed painting landscapes, doing woodworking, target shooting, gardening, and puzzles. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Mariners, Seahawks, and Gonzaga teams. Ron and Sharon enjoyed numerous trips to the beach and national parks.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Francis Belcher, brother, Roy (Peggy) Phillips, sister, Ruth (Glen) Durr and niece, Maggie Kubo. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon, son Eric (Sara) of Elk Grove, CA and their two children, Drew and Mia Phillips and son, Scott (Suzanne) of Normandy Park, WA and their daughter, Sophia Phillips, and Phillips/Stanton nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 13th at 2 p.m. at West Side Church, 6901 Summitview Avenue, Yakima, WA. Memorials may be given to the Union Gospel Mission or Yakima Valley F.C. A. (Fellowship of Christian Athletes).
