Yakima, Washington - Phyllis Arline Christie, age 90, of Yakima, Washington went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, after passing away, on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Yakima. Phyllis Arline Christie, the daughter of Ralph and Violet (Beaudoin) McCarry, was born in Trout Lake, Michigan, on April 22, 1934.
Phyllis grew up on her parents' farm near Trout Lake. She attended school at Trout Lake through the 10th grade and gave the valedictory address at her 8th grade graduation. She completed the final two years of high school in Rudyard, Michigan, graduating one month after her 17th birthday.
Phyllis married George Christie in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on March 1, 1952. The Lord blessed them with two sons and two daughters, who even arrived in the birth order George and Phyllis desired.
Phyllis faithfully supported George as he served a stint in the Army, then completed his college and seminary education. For 44 years they actively and sacrificially served together as pastor and pastor's wife of four established Grace Brethren congregations and three church plants, all in Washington State. Phyllis ministered to many people through her evident gift of hospitality, and as a capable women's ministry leader in their local churches and in their denomination.
Phyllis used her considerable organizational and secretarial skills in a variety of medical office jobs, including many years as a medical transcriptionist. She thus supplemented the modest salary her husband received from the small churches they served.
Phyllis was always very interested in and devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom, along with their spouses, came to number over 40. In addition, for several decades she maintained a voluminous correspondence with literally hundreds of other relatives and friends.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, four of her seven siblings, and her husband. Those left to cherish her memory include her four children, Randy (Teresa) Christie of Kingman, Arizona, Debbie Corning of Yakima, Washington, Vance (Leeta) Christie of Aurora, Nebraska, and Vicki (Bryan) Futch of Pekin, Indiana, her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
