Marie Anne Green Obituary

Marie Anne Sevigny Green was born on July 26th, 1925 in Grafton, North Dakota to Josephine and Arthur Sevigny. She passed away peacefully on August 21st, 2024 at the age of 99.

Her family moved several times during her childhood including to Canada, Minnesota and finally to Moxee, Washington. At age 19, she left home to attend business college in Portland, Oregon. She often shared stories about the adventures she had living with five young women in Portland. Besides working and going to school, they found time to go out dancing and enjoying each other's company. They were life long friends, and stayed in touch and sometimes traveled together over several decades.

She met her future husband, Wallace Green in Portland and was immediately drawn to his wit and fun spirit. They dated while both were working and attending classes. They married at Holy Cross Church in Portland on October 4th, 1947.

Their next home was in Hermiston, Oregon where they started a construction business. Marie worked side by side with Wallace, managing the accounts, payroll and projects. The family grew to include six children before they moved to Seattle in 1966.

Marie started a position at Cabrini Hospital and worked doing payroll and providing administrative support for the nursing department. They always joked that when she left, they had to hire two people to replace her. When Wallace passed away in 1971, Marie still had five children at home and wondered how she could manage.

She later remarried, moved to Montana and became the stepmother to three children. Life was very busy with now six children in the household, and her working part time supporting the billing and accounting for her husband's (John Kurta) dental practice. She was an active volunteer in the community. Her marriage ended after 5 years, and she moved back to Moxee, Washington to be closer to family.

In 1979, she moved to Seattle, Washington and worked in the health insurance industry. After a year of big city living, she wanted to return to the Yakima area, and purchased a home there. She lived in Yakima until 2023, and had a full life between her employment, her family and friends, and her daughter Jackie. Her longest employment was with Senior Information and Assistance. She became known as the walking encyclopedia of knowledge, and shared those resources with clients and friends. She was well celebrated when she finally retired at age 79 with a wonderful party acknowledging her contributions.

Marie was a natural leader, as the oldest of 14 children, she was given a lot of responsibility at a young age. She always valued her family and friends, remembering and acknowledging birthdays and special occasions.

She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially after she retired. Her Catholic Faith was very important to her, and the Prayer Line was her favorite ministry. She had many wonderful memories of the dedicated women she shared this ministry with, and was grateful for the opportunity to serve.

Marie and Wallace were blessed with six children: son-Patrick (Vanda), daughter-Sandra (Patricia), son-Michael (Patricia), son-Jeffrey (Kristie), son-John (Racine) and daughter-Jacqueline, who preceded her in death on 10/14/2015.
