Loretta Jean Luther Obituary

Zillah, WA - Loretta Jean Luther (Worms), 96, of Zillah, Washington, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 22, 2025 surrounded by family.

Born on July 16 1929 in Calvin, North Dakota, she moved with her parents and sisters to Sunnyside, Washington in 1937. She graduated from Sunnyside High School with the Class of 1947.

On October 25, 1947, Loretta married the love of her life, Orville Lee Luther. Together they built a life centered on family, farming, and hard work. Loretta worked tirelessly alongside Orville on their cherry orchards, grape vineyards, asparagus fields and livestock farm, while also helping to establish O.L. Luther Co. in 1972, which grew into a successful family business in asphalt, gravel, and excavation. Her strength and perseverance defined her work, but her greatest pride was raising her children and caring deeply for her extended family.

Loretta was a devout Christian, passionate fisherwoman, avid Seattle Mariners fan, and a talented seamstress. She found joy in gardening, her church community, and family traditions at Rimrock Lake, Bumping Lake, Lake Roosevelt, and the Columbia River. She traveled to Hawaii and beyond, but her greatest happiness was always found at home, surrounded by those she loved. Loretta was known for her quiet strength, determination, compassion, and faith.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Orville, her parents Martin and Ruth Worms, and her sisters Doris Sherman and Carolina Hazzard. She is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren who carry her love and legacy forward.

Children: Arnold "Joe" Luther (Susie), Jeaneva Ann Hallett, Diana Marie Smith.

Grandchildren: Shannon Brooks (Justin), Wes Hallett (Cristie), Lee Luther (Mallory), Matthew Hallett (Asayo Urisu), Joseph Luther (Raquel), Hillary Nesary (Chris), Mallory Buechler (Troy).
