Yakima, WA - James Joseph Walther, known to all as Jim, was born on April 19, 1943, in Palo Alto, California, to Fred and Barbara Walther. He passed away on November 15, 2025, in Yakima, Washington, the place he proudly called home for 54 years.
Jim was the second of seven children -- Paul, Charlie, Tom, Marion, Barbara, and John. He married Vickie Walther (Pitts), and together they shared 58 years. He is survived by his children, Patrick Walther; Jamie Walther and her husband, Randy Robert; and Lisa Walther; his grandchildren, Sarah, Collin, Miah, and Seth; and his great-granddaughter, Wilhelmina.
Jim was known as an incredibly hard worker and a master of countless trades. He could fix or build anything and freely shared his skills with everyone. Tough, determined, and a self-proclaimed hard ass in the best way, he balanced his grit with a dry, mischievous sense of humor. He loved to joke, pull pranks, and make people smile.
Jim leaves behind a legacy built with both his hands and his heart. As a custom home builder for many decades, he crafted hundreds of homes where families still live today. His craftsmanship stands throughout the community, and his influence endures in the people he taught and helped.
He had a deep love for animals and a passion for riding his Harleys, especially on his annual trips to Sturgis. He loved the thrill of buying and selling everything -- from tools and treasures to trucks, motorhomes, cars, and motorcycles -- and he was an enthusiastic antique collector. He cherished his weekly breakfasts with his grandson, Seth, and the car guys, and loved spending time with his family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. Though they are heartbroken to say goodbye, they take comfort in knowing how profoundly Jim impacted those around him and how deeply he will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Summitview Church of Christ, 100 N 72nd Ave, Yakima, WA 98908.
