James "Jim" L. Sandall Obituary

Yakima, Washington - James "Jim" L. Sandall, beloved father, cherished father-in-law, devoted Papa, and loving brother, passed away on May 9, 2025, at the age of 68. Jim was born on August 28,1956, in Yakima, Washington. He was raised in Moxee, along with his eight siblings, with a deep connection to the Moxee community.

Growing up he loved camping, hunting, fishing, wrestling, and football. There was nothing he wouldn't try at least once. Jim graduated from East Valley High School in 1975 and kept in touch with his classmates throughout the years.

Jim began his professional career on the farm, where he managed around 500 acres of apples for The National Food Corporation, until going back to school in the early 2000's, when he graduated from Perry Technical Institute and worked as a refrigeration engineer. In 2021, Jim was forced into retirement after a work-related injury prevented him from staying on the job. He officially retired from Lamb Weston, after overseeing their water treatment facility for many years. Jim would undoubtedly still be working to this day if he could, as he loved staying active and living life with the mindset to always keep going.

In his younger years he enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and Sunday dinners at his family home with a good game of Pinochle and horseshoes. Quiet moments at home, he enjoyed tying flies for fly fishing as well as building model cars. He was an avid member of the NRA and took his gun rights very seriously. In his retirement he found joy in his Corvette. He was an active member with the Yakima Valley Vettes and 3 Rivers Corvette clubs, attending weekly meetings, parades, poker runs, and his favorite activity "cruises".

Jim was a survivor; he lived for 50 years with type 1 diabetes and most recently had an L-VAD (left ventricle assist device). He was given about one year to live and lived over five years, before a tragic car accident cut his life short. There are currently only about 14,000 people living in the United States with an L-VAD. His strength, character, and resilience throughout the last five years was remarkable. He set this example for his children, grandchildren, and all that knew him.

He will be remembered for the warmth of his heart and the deep love he had for his family. He offered encouragement and was someone you could talk to about anything. As a father, he was always present and available for whatever we needed. He was a selfless man who would give everything he had to help. He taught us the value of common sense and how to be the best parents we could be. He was famous for teaching us kids how to drive at a very young age, start wind machines in the middle of the night laying on his lap while he drove. He instilled family first always, many special family traditions and of course his one-liners, like "howdy hody" when he would answer the phone and it's time to "bust out" when he was ready to go, we can't forget the infamous "took care of." He was a one-of-a-kind guy who would do anything for anyone. His passing has left a hole that will never be filled, we are comforted by the memories we have of him. We are proud to call him Dad! He was also a wonderful father-in-law. As a father-in-law, he was not only family, but he was also a best friend. He was always there for a listening ear, kind words and a helping hand. His grandchildren were the light of his life; he never missed a chance to create memories with them. He loved nothing more than being an involved and present grandfather, whether cheering on his grandchildren at sporting events, shopping trips to TJ Maxx, spur of the moment ice cream trips, going on joyrides in his beloved Corvette, or simply sitting with them in quiet moments of love watching Gunsmoke or The Rifleman. His eyes lit up in their presence, and his pride in them was endless. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he helped create, and the love he gave so freely. We will miss his hugs, his wisdom, his laughter, and his constant presence in our lives.

He is survived by his children, Shannon (T.J.) Vaughn, Randy (Angela) Sandall, James (Jessica) Sandall, his grandchildren, Travis (Kaitlyn), Kailynn (Keyshawn), Madisyn, Charlie, Olivia, Savannah, Henry, Allyson, Bennett, Liam, Jackson, and his great-granddaughter, Nova Rae, his siblings, Bill Sandall, Linda (Paul) Lenseigne, Marilyn (Tony) Mitzel, Jeanne (Dan) McIntyre, Tom (Tammra) Sandall, as well as over a dozen nieces and nephews he loved deeply, especially Luke, Casey, and Logan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Sandall, his brothers, Bob Sandall and Dave Sandall, and his sister, Michele Baudino. Although we mourn his passing, we are grateful for the gift of his life and the time we shared.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 12:00pm, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (201 N. Iler St, Moxee, WA, 98936). There will be a reception to follow at the Hop Country Bar and Grill (AKA The Barn Door).

A Celebration of Life and Burial will be held at a later date this summer.
