Glen William Dahmen Obituary

Yakima, Washington - Glen William Dahmen, aged 93, passed away on May 23, 2025. Glen was born on November 2, 1931, at Union Town, Washington, to William Dahmen and Barbara (née Andares) Dahmen. He was the youngest of eleven children.

After graduating from Idaho State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Entomology, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves and served in the Korean Conflict. His service in Korea entailed personal discomfort in primitive living conditions, which prompted him to declare to his family in the future that camping would never be one of their recreational pastimes.

After returning to the United States, Glen settled with his family in Yakima, WA, where he worked for Wilbur-Ellis, a diversified agri-business corporation, at which he was a branch manager. Later, he joined the G.S. Long Company, a crop nutrition and management corporation.

Glen was a highly regarded entomologist who selflessly shared his knowledge of plant health and management with junior specialists in the agricultural industry, earning the informal nickname of "Professor." He was not one to mince words and often used unique turns-of-phrase that became known as "Glen-isms." This tell-it-like-it-is discourse carried through to his personal life in conversation with friends and family.

Even after retiring from full-time employment, Glen kept his hand in the field well into his late 80s, being called frequently to advise as a consultant on fruit tree diseases and infestations. He relished being called into court hearings as a sought-after expert witness when orchard disputes were litigated.

Not surprisingly, the landscape around the Dahmen home was always the envy of the neighborhood, thanks to Glen's knowledge of plants and pests, and his relentless pursuit of landscape management. Besides his love of family and plants, he loved his dogs, and their care rose to the level of spoiling.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bonnie Jean Moore, whom he married on August 18, 1951, and passed away on February 24, 2013, and their daughter, Janice Sherry Dahmen, who died on September 29, 2018.

Glen is survived by his daughter, Vikki Dahmen-Jones, and special friends who are like daughters, Tammy Kubishta and Sherry Browning.

Glen exited his life in the same way he lived it: independently, on his own terms, without a fuss. Accordingly, there will be no traditional memorial, but Keith & Keith Funeral Home, located at 902 West Yakima Ave, is handling final arrangements.
