Gaynelle LaCombe Obituary

Yakima, WA - Gaynelle passed away on February 8, 2026 in her home in Yakima. She was born in Wapato May 15, 1931, she was the last of 12 members of the Speed & Hazel Yearout clan. Each was remarkably unique... perhaps each was fighting to create his or her individual space to stand out in a crowded field. The last of those candles, a sister, mother, grandma, great-grandma, flickered one last time and went dark.

In her teens she sang in a vocal trio "The Melody Maids" performing at Rodeos, County Fairs Conventions and once at the Walla Walla State Penitentiary and many radio appearances. She became a hair dresser and married L.A. -- Duke LaCombe and by 1960 had were parents of 4 sons. Together they operated businesses in Granger and Yakima.

For many years, Gaynelle would sometimes remark, "I don't know why I'm still here." Apparently, she still had an unknown, and unfulfilled purpose into her 94th year. Even just a few days ago, she had a dream in which she wanted to join the rest of her family -- join them where is anyone's guess. However, in the dream she was told that they weren't ready for her yet, so she awakened.

Anyone who knew Gaynelle understands that, while not necessarily religious, she had a gift and deep connection with the afterlife and metaphysical presences -- a gift that she often found a burden. This dream was an obvious sign that she chose to obey. Yet, just a week later, the elders may have reconsidered and summoned her. At that moment, her energy was released, and she passed away peacefully, and no doubt gratefully, with family members nearby -- and the others who preceded her waiting in the wings.

Gaynelle was smart, compassionate, sassy, quick-witted, laid back and was near infinitely creative and talented. Perhaps most significantly, she was a direct link to our family's history that can never be replaced. She will be missed.

Gaynelle is survived by her for sons Kenny, Matt, Paul and Tom and grandchildren Keely, Marcus, Lewis and Micahiel plus 6 great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside remembrance at Tahoma Cemetery Saturday February 28th at 11:30AM.
