Tacoma, WA - Eloise Rose St. George, daughter of Albert Gustav and Elsie Catherine Anderson, passed peacefully in Tacoma on September 30, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Astoria, Oregon, Eloise graduated from Port Orford High School in Port Orford, Oregon, in 1949 and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Central Washington State University in 1969. She spent her entire career teaching at Summitview Elementary School in Yakima, retiring in 1993. In 2019, she moved to Tacoma to be closer to family members.
The daughter of a lighthouse keeper, Eloise spent her childhood at lighthouses (Cape Blanco in Oregon and Alki Point in Seattle) and maintained a lifelong interest in lighthouses and their history and contribution to U.S. maritime safety. She also enjoyed square dancing and was a member of several dance clubs in the Yakima area, including Selamona Squares, in the 1960's and 70's. She also loved to travel, taking long family road trips throughout North America in the 1970's, as well as RV club group trips as a member of the Good Sam Club and the Central Washington Travelers until 2017. She traveled extensively overseas also, taking numerous trips to Europe, Southeast Asia, China, and Japan, as well as cruises to South America, Panama Canal, and Alaska.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband James R. Conklin, her brother Richard Anderson, son Doran Conklin, and great-grandson Daniel Dalimata. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Philip St. George; sons Dane Conklin and Ray (Gary) St. George; daughter Darlene Rompogren (Michael); five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church by the Narrows, Tacoma.
