Yakima, WA - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved wife and sister Diane Virginia (Culbertson) Rogers. Diane died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack on Friday March 21, 2025 in Yakima. She was only 67 years old. Diane was born on January 19, 1958 in Colfax, Washington, the eldest daughter of Luther Junior Culbertson and Cecile Joanne (Hanson) Culbertson. The family moved frequently during her childhood while our dad looked for work, finally settling in Deer Park, Washington in the early 1960's. During her high school years is when Diane excelled the most. Diane was always the smart one, the take charge person, the one to go to for problems. Same as she was in high school. During high school she worked on the school yearbook, The Antler, all four years and was editor her senior year. She worked on the Stagg staff for three years and was editor her junior year. She was a finalist for the Masonic Lodge Jr. Achievement Award her junior year. She was a candidate for the Harvest Ball Royalty in her junior and senior years. She won the Citizenship Award for the class of 1976. She was voted Most Likely to Succeed in her graduating class. Our dad died just days before Diane's 18th birthday and never got to see her graduate. Diane came in second in her class and gave the Salutatorian speech. While doing all of this at school, she also worked at the Tri-County Tribune (now the Deer Park Tribune). She also worked at Mary's Cafe as a waitress. She also worked with our local parade, as the coordinator, helping getting it all together. Diane graduated in June of 1976 and that fall moved to Yakima to attend college, majoring in photography and journalism . During college she worked at JC Penney. Later she worked at Mervyn's for many years. In 1990 she started working at Morton's Supply, where she would work for the next thirty five years, only retiring at the end of February 2025. On April 23, 1983 she married the love of her life, Thomas R. Rogers, in Yakima. They remained together until her death.
Diane's hobbies included cooking, baking and cross-stitching. Every year she entered a cross stitching picture in the fair and always won a blue ribbon. She also loved sewing. She was a non-professional seamstress and spent many hours making a vast array of clothing for family and friends.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Joanne, all four grandparents, one nephew, Nicholas John Ulstad, and one great-niece, Ellowyn Faith Evans.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 42 years, Thomas Rogers of Yakima, three sisters, Toni (Culbertson) Ulstad of Yakima, Rhonda Beth Culbertson of Yakima, and Beverley (Culbertson) Hazelett of Yakima. Other survivors include one niece, Trista (Ulstad) Gonzalez and husband Hugo of Kennewick, WA and three nephews, Joshua (Rebecca) Ulstad of Mead, WA, Frank Evans of College Place, WA and Simmarron (Rebecca) Evans of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Plus several great nieces and nephews. Survivors also include her life long friend of sixty years, Shannon Verdel of Deer Park, WA. Diane was cremated and her ashes were given to her husband. At her request, there was no service. Valley Hills Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
