Yakima, WA - Dennis Wayne Simmons, born on August 20, 1960, passed away on May 26, 2025, at the age of 64.
Growing up, Dennis loved racing motocross with his brother Rob and stepdad Verne, while little sister Connie was always quietly supportive -- if you could call the one running the show quiet. He and his longtime friend Dave once rode their motorcycles through Franklin Middle School, a memory often recalled with a laugh.
Dennis had a long career as a truck driver, hauling fruit throughout the valley. His favorite thing to haul was bees -- affectionately called "his girls." The truck he drove throughout his career was a Peterbilt he named Ruby.
Dennis was a father, a brother, a son, and a friend -- known for his ability to talk to anyone, sharp wit, and generosity. He is survived by his children, Dennis J. Simmons and Shelby G. Ward.
He is also survived by his mother, Janet A. Powell (and her husband Terry), his stepdad Verne Simmons, and his sister, Connie L. Svendsen (and her husband Peter Svendsen), and her sons, Jarrett and Levi Wilkinson.
Dennis and his mom spent many hours talking about life, and he loved her deeply.
Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Robert D. Simmons, and his father, John R. Heisler. Their memories remained close to him throughout his life.
Everyone who met Dennis remembered him, as he always left his unique mark. He will be remembered for his honesty, resilience, and the impression he left on those around him.
An Open House Celebration of Life will be held on July 13th from 1:00 to 4:00 at Cascade Gardens in Yakima. All who knew Dennis are welcome to attend and share in honoring his memory.
