Betty Jean (Hall) Judkins was born in the Roaring Twenties (3/5/1929), grew up in the Great Depression and spent her teenage years in WW2. Her parents separated when she was very young, so she grew up with her father, Bert Hall (USMC, WW1), and older siblings Peggy (Wes) Tuttle, Robert (Judith) Hall and Larry (Vickie) Hall. During WW2 just Betty and her father were living at the family home on North Naches Ave. Her first job was as an usherette at the Liberty Theater, she walked there every day and home every night.
Betty married Virgil Judkins (US Navy WW2 & Korea) of Prosser in 1948. Virgil worked for Henry J. Kaiser Engineering and the family followed him all across the US, Canada and two years in India on different construction jobs. Betty learned to play golf and became an excellent and competitive Bridge player during these adventures. She was an excellent bowler and belonged to the 600 Club. Betty and Virgil retired to Kennewick where she continued to be the extended family's photographer.
Retirement was a busy time for Betty. She became very active in the Disabled American Veterans in Kennewick and over a twenty year period volunteered over 1,000 hours at the Walla Walla Veterans Hospital and Nursing Home. Betty was loved by the patients and staff for her quick sense of humor drawing out the most reclusive of patients. Both were members of The 40 & 8 Society, an organization of veterans who do charity work.
Betty loved Reno, every spring she and sister Peggy would spend five days there. When Peggy could no longer make the trip, her daughter Constance would go with her.
Betty passed away on October 26, 2022, in Richland. She is predeceased by her brothers, sister, and their spouses. Also, her husband Virgil, her daughter, Jacquelyn Jean and son, Gregory Virgil.
