Barbara Hines, age 96, passed away on April 3, 2025, in Yakima, Washington. Barbara was born in Tolkdorf, East Prussia.

After WWII she had to flee from her home and relocated to Frankfurt, West Germany, where she met her future husband, Bruce Hines, who was in the Air Force, stationed near Frankfurt. In 1953, she immigrated to the United States and married her husband, Bruce, in 1954. Barbara and Bruce were married for 70+ years.

Barbara was very proud of her family, Scott Hines, his wife Karin, and son, Captain Cedric Hines, and her daughter, Linda Wells, husband, Jerry.

Barbara attended YVCC and became a LPN, and for many years, she worked at Memorial Hospital, in the Cardiac Care Unit.

Barbara was always trying new things. She loved learning. She took classes on public speaking, modeling, painting, belly dancing, and porcelain repair. She taught herself to hook woolen rugs, loved gardening, and was an avid reader.

Barbara loved antiques. With her friends, Kathy Carner and Louise Leedom, they would shop far and near antique stores and garage sales to find bargains. Her daughter, Linda Wells, bought her tickets to the Seattle Antique Road Show, which was a great highlight.

She also did a lot of volunteer work for the Red Cross, the local Crisis Line, and the Yakima Museum. She also enjoyed her time as a member of the Yakima Country Club, and an antique club.

Barbara had her life story about fleeing her home after WWII, and coming to the United States documented at Story Core in the Library of Congress.
