Yakima, Washington - Allison Ann Haapala, devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at the age of 82. Born in Eureka, California, on April 5, 1943, to Margaret and Toivo Arvola.
Allison's life was marked by a deep commitment to her family, community, and artistic passions.
Allison graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and a minor in art. She also earned her secondary teaching certificate in 1965.
Her career included working as an assistant traffic equipment manager for Pacific Telephone and later as a statistics instructor at Yakima Valley Community College.
A trailblazer for women in local government, Allison made history as the first woman to serve on the City Council of Willows, California, where she served with dedication and integrity. She was also a devoted volunteer at Camp Prime Time, a retreat for children with chronic illnesses, and an active member of both the Yakima Enological Society and the Red Hat Society.
An artist at heart, Allison expressed her creativity through watercolor paintings, pencil sketches, and beautifully woven silk baskets, sharing her talents throughout Central Washington.
Allison is survived by her husband, Richard V. Haapala, her daughter, Vanessa Jacobson of Bend, OR, and her sister Cheryll Moss, of San Jose, CA.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the communities she touched with her warmth, kindness, and generosity.
